Hebrides - 3 Days
Explore the city's history with a knowledgeable tour guide
Service Description
Day 1 – An early start, leaving Inverness behind. We’ll travel through wooded glens, pen hills and wide sky’s. We take the morning ferry from the fishing village of Ullapool. The ferry crossing to Stornoway is a destination in its own right! As the sea opens up there is every chance we can watch the dolphins or seals that escort us out of The Minch. On arriving on the island we will spend the afternoon exploring the amazing landscape of Harris. We return in the early evening to Stornoway. Day 2 – Today we explore Lewis. Spending time with the iconic Callanish Standing stones. This is a place of myth and ancestral presence, a place that never feels the same twice! Dun Carloway Broch is next. This Iron Age tower allows us to imagine the resilient and resourceful people who once lived here. Next, we move on to Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, where traditional thatched homes tell the story of island life just a century ago. Smoke-blackened walls, low doorways, and the Atlantic just beyond, simple, hard, and beautifully human. The afternoon could take us out to the wild west coast where the land simply ends and the Atlantic takes over. Here there is space for photographs, short walks, fresh air, and that unmistakable Hebridean sense of perspective. Day 3 – Our last day on the island is deliberately unhurried. A morning at leisure to explore the town of Stornoway. We board the lunchtime ferry back to Ullapool and make our scenic drive back to Inverness.
