Orkney islands

2 day tour

DAY ONE

Your journey begins early in Inverness as we head north on a scenic drive of around three hours to the very top of Scotland. Depending on ferry schedules, we will choose the most suitable crossing. Lunch is typically enjoyed in either John o’ Groats or Thurso before we cross the Pentland Firth to Orkney. During puffin season from April to August, there is often a chance to spot these seabirds along the way.

Once on Orkney, the afternoon is spent exploring a rich mix of prehistoric landmarks, historic sites and sweeping island scenery, with opportunities to encounter local wildlife. Over the course of the visit, you will experience a combination of highlights including the famous naval base of Scapa Flow, the Churchill Barriers, the Italian Chapel and the historic town of Kirkwall. Where time allows, there may also be the chance to visit Highland Park Distillery, the Bishop’s Palace, the Earl’s Palace and St Magnus Cathedral. No visit to Orkney would be complete without seeing the Standing Stones of Stenness and the Ring of Brodgar.

We overnight in Kirkwall, giving you free time to relax, explore at your own pace and perhaps enjoy some of Scotland’s finest seafood.

DAY TWO

Day two sees us leaving the Orkneys mid morning to catch the ferry and then back to Inverness.

Additional costs: One night accommodation and subsistence for Guide, totalling £165. Ferry costs are not included and can be quoted on enquiry.

NB: Price is for guide and vehicle only. Admissions and food are not included.

If you'd like to pay a deposit of 25% to secure a guide then please email admin@invernesscustomtours.com.

2 DAY Outlander TOUR

DAY ONE

According to writer Diana Gabaldon, "The Outlander" series started by accident in the 1980's. Since then it has become an epic adventure beloved by fans worldwide.  With our OUTLANDER inspired tour let us transport you back in time to walk in the footsteps of Jamie and Claire.  Our day starts at the Bronze age standing stones of Clava Cairns. Then onto Culloden where we will make this emotional piece of history come alive. After a lunch break at a uniquely Outlander-related restaurant, we take a short photo visit to Castle Leod (Castle Leoch).  Then on to a beautiful waterfall, reminiscent of the landscape from the show, to stretch the legs.  We then take the short drive into Beauly, a pretty village mentioned several times in the books. To finish the day we could go to afternoon tea or perhaps a wee taste of something stronger at a local distillery.

DAY TWO

The west Highlands with its picture postcard scenery is an area that never disappoints. On this tour, we visit the infamous Loch Ness (where Claire saw the Water Horse), travel over Mam Ratagan Pass, a stunning drive which drops down into the village of Glen Elg, then onwards via the last hand operated turntable ferry in the world to the Isle of Skye, before returning to Inverness via the impressive Skye bridge.  There is also time for a photo stop of Eileen Donan Castle.

With day 2, there is also the option of adding on an additional 3 hours - making it an 11 hour day.  This will allow you to explore the magical island of Skye in more depth.

NB: Price is for guide and vehicle only. Admissions, food and guide gratuities are not included.
