The Orkney Islands

Orkney is a place where the land remembers.  Here, stone circles rise from open fields, sea cliffs fall away into roaring water, and history is not something kept behind glass — it lies under your feet, etched into rock and story. Older than the pyramids, shaped by wind and tide, Orkney is a landscape that invites you to slow down, look closer, and feel the deep passage of time. This is not a destination you simply visit.  It is one you experience.

Orkney 2 Day

DAY ONE

Your day starts early in Inverness.  We head north on a 3hr scenic adventure to the top of Scotland. There is a choice of ferry route depending on scheduling times. Lunchtime is usually spent either in John o' Groats or Thurso. We then cross the Pentland Firth (sometimes passing clouds of Puffins - during their season between April and August) to Orkney. You are taken to prehistoric sites, historic sites and introduced to the islands' scenery and, perhaps, some wildlife.

You will see and visit a combination of the following attractions - the famous naval base Scapa Flow, the Churchill Barriers, the Italian Chapel and the town of Kirkwall.  There might be an opportunity to visit Highland Park Distillery, the Bishop's Palace, the Earl's Palace, and Saint Magnus Cathedral. No trip to Orkney would be complete without seeing the standing Stones o Stenness and the Ring of Brodgar. We overnight in Kirkwall giving you time to yourselves and perhaps the opportunity to experience some of the finest seafood in Scotland.

Day two sees us leaving the Orkneys either mid morning or evening to catch the ferry and then back to Inverness.

Our rate for this two day Orkney Tour would be £.1260  There would also be one night accommodation and subsistence for the guide totalling £165 and the cost of the ferry, which we can advise on when you enquire.
